Unique Fiber Art 

My fiber art practice grew out of decades of creative exploration, beginning in the 1980s with commercial textiles and evolving through more than 30 years of teaching color and design at the university level. This long immersion in materials and theory now fuels a deeply personal and experimental body of work.

 

Each piece is handwoven from reclaimed plastic—grocery bags, Amazon packaging, boutique shopping bags, bread bags, and even toilet paper wrappers—transformed into unexpected textiles. These unconventional fibers are interlaced with repurposed elements such as wire, beads, unraveled silk saris, fabric strips, and antique buttons, creating surfaces rich in history, texture, and contrast. The process is deliberately slow and intimate: every five-inch section of weaving requires roughly an hour of focused labor, ensuring that no two works are ever alike.

 

At the heart of this practice is a love of experimentation—pushing nontraditional materials beyond their intended use and embracing texture, asymmetry, opposites, and unconventional color relationships. The result is art that challenges expectations, celebrates reinvention, and turns the overlooked into the extraordinary.
